Map has been a professional wildlife guide for over forty years, working in some of the most iconic wilderness areas in Africa and during which he has earned a reputation as one of the very best on that continent. His depth of knowledge and willingness to share his insights and information have brought him many accolades and his involvement in conservation alongside his guiding work has brought him recognition worldwide. He has taught and mentored an entire generation of professional guides in Botswana a host of whom are recognized in their own right as being some of the best in the business.

He understands that your professional guide is one of the most important people on any safari – not only in charge of your safety and comfort, but also acts as a companion, interpreter of nature and something of a nature philosopher. Every safari is a personal journey, a personal experience and a profoundly life enhancing voyage. For Map it has been a lifelong journey during which the incredible unlikeliness of life itself continues to fascinate him and which forms the basis for his own inquisitive travels.

Over the years he has developed a deep respect for life in all it’s facets and enjoys nothing better than sharing his knowledge and insights into all life. His stories and anecdotes will inform and delight you as he opens your eyes to the many miracles and processes that make our world so precious.

Traveling with MAP brings an incredible depth to the African bush experience. His limitless knowledge of every aspect of the bush is stunning. MAP can, unexplainably, make things happen while you are out in the bush and his tracking abilities will astound you while his sense of humor is unmatched. We feel fortunate and privileged to have had Map for a guide and look forward to our next safari with him. We have experienced many safari guides over the years and none compare with Map Ives.
